If you’re a Gmail user, you may have noticed that there’s a new feature called Hangouts. This is a chat app that’s built into the Gmail platform and it’s really handy for keeping in touch with friends and family. But if you’re not using Hangouts, there are a few ways to remove it from your account. Here are three tips:

  1. Log out of your account and then log back in. This will take care of any pending messages and notifications that were sent while you were away.
  2. Delete the app from your phone or computer. If you’ve installed it on your computer, open up the Google Play Store and uninstall it. If you’ve installed it on your phone, open up the App Store and uninstall it as well.
  3. Reset your password if you haven’t done so already. This will take care of any personal data that was stored on Hangouts when you last used it.

On your computer, log in to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com or Gmail and select a conversation. Select Delete conversation from the drop-down menu. If you’re confident that you want to erase your discussion, click the Remove button.

You can’t remove your Google Hangouts account unless you delete your Google account as well. Hangouts are integrated into your Google account, so the only way to get rid of it is to completely delete your Google account.

Tap the notifications panel and choose “Settings from the drop-down menu select “Applications” after clicking on “Apps. Click on “Google Hangouts” below. Select “Disable” by using the “Force Stop” button. Any warnings that may appear indicating that the program might give you a headache should be approved.

Open the Hangouts app on your phone. In the menu bar at the top left, tap Menu. Settings are where you’ll want to go. You may change your Google Account settings from here as well. After that, sign out by scrolling all the way to the bottom and tapping Sign out.

If you downloaded Google Hangouts from the Play Store, you can remove it in the App Settings menu. It is not feasible to entirely delete Google Hangouts if it was pre-installed on your Android device. However, you can deactivate it.
