If you’re a Gmail user on an Android device, there’s a good chance that you’re using the app to store and access your email. If you want to uninstall Gmail from your device, here are some tips to help you do so:

  1. Open the Google Play Store and search for “Gmail”
  2. Tap on the “Uninstall” button at the top of the screen
  3. Follow the prompts to uninstall Gmail from your device

Gmail is a system app on all Android phones, so you won’t be able to delete it. If you want to get rid of it, your phone will need to be rooted.

On Google.com, log in to your Gmail account. Click the grid icon in the upper right corner and pick “Account.” Under the “Account preferences” box, click “Delete your account or services.” Select “Delete items.” Enter your password if prompted.

If you refresh the device activity page, it will show all devices that had access to your account in the previous 28 days. Locate and click on the device you want to delete. Select Delete from the drop-down menu and then click Remove.

What happens when your Gmail service is canceled? Your emails and mail settings will be deleted. You won’t be able to use your Gmail address to send or receive email. Your Google Account will not be deleted; only your Gmail service will be removed.

Locate the Gmail service in your Google Apps account and click the trash can next to it. Confirm and follow the instructions to remove the account. If you wish to reestablish the account at a later time, you have the option of suspending it instead of deleting it. To remove an account rather than suspend it, choose “permanent delete.”
