The Mute Feature on Instagram
There are two ways to mute someone on Instagram, the first is by muting all claims of mutual friends and the second way is to mute someone for 24 hours.
Mutual friends means that this account has been added as a mutual friend to your own Instagram account. You can still follow or unfollow them if you have made them a mutual friend. If this person has blocked you, then they have muted you for more than 24 hours.
How to find out if someone has muted you on Instagram
If someone has muted your Instagram account, you will have to find out who muted you. To do this, simply go to the “mute” tab in your Instagram profile and see if the person who muted you is also blocking you from following or unfollowing them. If so, it is likely that they have effectively rejected any attempts of yours to follow or unfollow them.
How to follow someone who has muted your account.
Even if someone has muted your account, this doesn’t mean that you’re unable to follow them. If you want to follow the person who muted your account, simply connect your Instagram account and then click on their profile. In the “following” tab of the person’s profile, click on their username which will bring up a list of their mutual friends. Scroll through the list until you find the person who muted your account. You can then click on their username and follow them!
If someone has blocked you from following or unfollowing them, then they have blocked you from being able to see any posts from them. This means that they have rejected any attempts at following or unfollowing. Once someone has blocked you for more than 24 hours, it is likely that they don’t want any attempts at following or unfollowing them for all claims of mutual friends or for more than 24 hours.
